ORIGINS OF LOTUS BISCOFF

Nutella is the GOAT but this isn’t too far behind.

Alright, let's talk about the sweet sensation that is Lotus Biscoff and how it skyrocketed to fame. The lotus biscoff is one of the main ingredients in one of our most popular menu items, the ‘Lotus Dream’!

“The Lotus Dream” is coated with Lotus Biscoff sauce and crushed Lotus Biscoff biscuits - One of our most popular flavours.

Back when any of us weren’t even around, the story begins in Belgium in the early 1930s when a baker named Jan Boone Sr. started making these caramelized, spiced biscuits called Speculoos. These cookies were a hit, known for their unique flavor and crunchy texture.

Fast forward to the 1950s, and another Belgian baker, Els Scheppers, took the Speculoos game to the next level by creating a smoother, spreadable version of the biscuit. She called it "Biscoff," a combination of "biscuit" and "coffee," as it was often served alongside a cup of joe.

But it wasn't until 1985 that Lotus Bakeries, a family-owned Belgian company, acquired the recipe for Biscoff and started mass-producing it. They cleverly marketed it as the perfect accompaniment to coffee, and soon, it became a staple in cafés and households across Europe.

The turning point came in the 1990s when airlines began serving Biscoff cookies on flights. Passengers couldn't get enough of these delicious treats, and soon, word spread like wildfire. Before long, Biscoff became synonymous with air travel, and people started seeking it out in stores.

Then, in 2007, Lotus took things up a notch by introducing Biscoff Spread—a creamy, spreadable version of the beloved cookie. It was a game-changer, opening up a whole new world of possibilities for enjoying Biscoff.

But the real breakthrough came with the rise of social media. Food bloggers and influencers started raving about Biscoff, sharing mouthwatering recipes and creative ways to use it. Suddenly, it wasn't just a cookie or a spread; it was a cultural phenomenon.

Today, Lotus Biscoff is more popular than ever, with fans all over the world indulging in everything from Biscoff-flavored ice cream to Biscoff-Drizzl’d hot ball doughnuts or gelato (see what we did there?). It's a true testament to the power of a simple biscuit and the magic of spreading joy, one delicious bite at a time.
