ORIGINS OF LOTUS BISCOFF

Nutella is the GOAT but this isn’t too far behind.

Alright, let's talk about the sweet sensation that is Lotus Biscoff and how it skyrocketed to fame. The lotus biscoff is one of the main ingredients in one of our most popular menu items, the ‘Lotus Dream’!

“The Lotus Dream” is coated with Lotus Biscoff sauce and crushed Lotus Biscoff biscuits - One of our most popular flavours.

Back when any of us weren’t even around, the story begins in Belgium in the early 1930s when a baker named Jan Boone Sr. started making these caramelized, spiced biscuits called Speculoos. These cookies were a hit, known for their unique flavor and crunchy texture.

Fast forward to the 1950s, and another Belgian baker, Els Scheppers, took the Speculoos game to the next level by creating a smoother, spreadable version of the biscuit. She called it "Biscoff," a combination of "biscuit" and "coffee," as it was often served alongside a cup of joe.

But it wasn't until 1985 that Lotus Bakeries, a family-owned Belgian company, acquired the recipe for Biscoff and started mass-producing it. They cleverly marketed it as the perfect accompaniment to coffee, and soon, it became a staple in cafés and households across Europe.

The turning point came in the 1990s when airlines began serving Biscoff cookies on flights. Passengers couldn't get enough of these delicious treats, and soon, word spread like wildfire. Before long, Biscoff became synonymous with air travel, and people started seeking it out in stores.

Then, in 2007, Lotus took things up a notch by introducing Biscoff Spread—a creamy, spreadable version of the beloved cookie. It was a game-changer, opening up a whole new world of possibilities for enjoying Biscoff.

But the real breakthrough came with the rise of social media. Food bloggers and influencers started raving about Biscoff, sharing mouthwatering recipes and creative ways to use it. Suddenly, it wasn't just a cookie or a spread; it was a cultural phenomenon.

Today, Lotus Biscoff is more popular than ever, with fans all over the world indulging in everything from Biscoff-flavored ice cream to Biscoff-Drizzl’d hot ball doughnuts or gelato (see what we did there?). It's a true testament to the power of a simple biscuit and the magic of spreading joy, one delicious bite at a time.

MILKSHAKES VS ICED TEAS

The cult classics

Alright, let's dive into this delicious debate: milkshakes vs. low-calorie, guilt-free iced tea.

The cult classics.

First up, milkshakes. Picture creamy, dreamy concoctions blending together ice cream, milk, and your favorite flavors like chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla. They're thick, they're indulgent, and they're the ultimate comfort drink. Plus, they're perfect for satisfying that sweet tooth craving any time of day.

The low-calorie, guilt-free option.

On the other hand, we have low-calorie iced teas and sodas from Naked Life! Refreshing, light, and guilt-free, these beverages is all about quenching your thirst without the added sugar and calories. With iced tea flavours like peach and lemon, and low-cal soda flavours like mango, passionfruit, raspberry and lemon — all of these Naked Life options are a refreshing alternative to the sugary drinks and a great way to stay hydrated.

But which one reigns supreme? Well, it depends on what you're in the mood for. If you're craving something rich and creamy, a milkshake is the obvious choice. But if you're looking for a refreshing pick-me-up without the guilt, low-calorie iced tea and sodas is the way to go.

In the end, both have their place in the beverage hierarchy here at Drizzl’d. Whether you're indulging in a milkshake as a special treat or sipping on low-calorie iced tea or soda to cool off on a hot day, there's no denying that both are delicious in their own right.

One thing is for sure, “yeah, you deserve it.”

ORIGINS OF NUTELLA

The GOAT of all spreads and sauces

The origins of Nutella trace back to a pivotal moment in European history and the creative ingenuity of an Italian pastry maker. It all began during World War II when cocoa was in short supply due to rationing. Pietro Ferrero, the founder of Ferrero, an Italian confectionery company, faced the challenge of creating a chocolate spread that could be made with limited cocoa.

Ferrero experimented with various ingredients, including hazelnuts, which were plentiful in the Piedmont region of Italy. By blending roasted hazelnuts with a small amount of cocoa, sugar, and a touch of vegetable oil, he created a creamy, nutty spread that was not only delicious but also economical. Originally called "Pasta Gianduja," it was sold in solid form and became popular among locals.

In 1964, Pietro's son, Michele Ferrero, improved the recipe by turning the spread into a creamy consistency, which made it easier to spread on bread. Renamed "Nutella," the spread quickly gained popularity throughout Italy and eventually spread across Europe.

Nutella's popularity continued to soar, and in the 1980s, Ferrero began exporting it to markets around the world, including the United States. With its irresistible combination of rich chocolate and creamy hazelnut flavors, Nutella captured the hearts (and taste buds) of people everywhere.

Today, Nutella is not just a spread; it's a cultural phenomenon - and something you’ll see a lot at ZZ. It's used in a variety of recipes, from breakfast pastries to decadent desserts, and has inspired countless imitations and variations. The iconic Nutella jar has become a staple in kitchens worldwide, and its distinctive red-and-white label is instantly recognizable.

The story of Nutella is a testament to the power of innovation and the enduring appeal of good food. From its humble origins in wartime Italy to its status as a beloved global brand, Nutella continues to bring joy to millions of people every day.
